I bought a T-shirt at a Pow Wow a couple of years ago showing a vintage photo of some Native Americans with the inscription “Fighting Terrorism since 1492.” It’s my official Columbus Day shirt.
I want to thank Bob Costas for doing that commentary regarding the way the United States still defiles and demeans the very people they attempted to wipe out when they stole their land and made a mockery of their holy places many years ago. He made a mistake when he said that most Native Americans don’t really care about these offensive mascot and team names. They are very offended, but have given up trying to get the fools that still do this to stop. What’s the point? I can remember how fast they made the Sambos restaurants change their name because of the same type of racial insensitivity back in the 1970s.
Native American Activists have been trying to get these sport groups to stop using offensive Indian references and mascots for many years to no avail. People like Michael Haney and Russell Means, who have now passed on, have been largely ignored. Why the NAACP does nothing is amazing to me. Red is a color as well. As someone who is part Native American myself, I am sick of this crap going on still today and I have to pretend that I have respect for a country that allows this. Well, personally, I’m done. My emails have been ignored and unless I can get a hold of Oprah or someone like that, not one thing will change. Try calling a sports group the darkies and see how far you get. Racism 101. I will fight no more forever!
I blame men. I blame their egos that seem to go on forever!
I especially blame John Boehner and his gross arrogance and egomania. Have you ever watched him sitting behind President Obama glaring away while the president speaks to the nation? Why on earth was “Obamacare” which is the Affordable Care Act passed in the first place? They had the time to make sure that everything was thoroughly gone over and that it was rational and fair to most. You can’t please everyone, we all know that, but this healthcare package is a glaring disgrace to anyone who voted in favor of passing it. It was neither a practical nor realistic bill and the fact that anyone voted in favor for it tells me that they didn’t know what was in the bill or they didn’t care. Either way it’s gross negligence on the job since they are supposed to be representing us.
Is the Affordable Care Act a good idea? That depends on who you ask. I believe that this will hurt far more people than it will ever help. The poor have always had access to medical care, while the middle and lower middle class have not and they are the ones now being stuck having to pay for it whether they need it or not and will also end up owing fines and penalties for not getting it. BAD IDEA!
Then there is the fact that most small business owners cannot afford to pay towards health insurance for their employees anymore. Who’s fault is this? The greedy healthcare corporations! It is also forcing many business owners to cut their employees hours so they will not be liable for paying their share towards it. A double whammy for some workers. How will this be remedied?
It’s a well-known fact that our Federal government is basically all but insolvent and the Affordable Care Act claims that those whose incomes warrant will have their premiums partially paid by Federal subsidies. It’s obvious that’s not going to happen. So what’s really going on here? Does anyone in office actually know what they are doing or is our government just a club for mentally incompetent elitists to get together so they can slap each other on the ass and trade fake compliments for yet another “spectacular idea” such as this?
I really believe if the rest of us working regular jobs did the kind of work they do, we would all be fired!
